<h2 id="3fbf3f6a-9f1a-4a2c-8838-860396175881" data-toc-id="3fbf3f6a-9f1a-4a2c-8838-860396175881">Astrology in the Wild: Mo Gawdat on Masculine vs. Feminine Energy (and what your chart already knows)</h2>Today’s spark: I was watching a&nbsp;<a target="_blank" rel="nofollow ugc noopener" href="https://www.youtube.com/@TheDiaryOfACEO">Diary of a CEO</a>&nbsp;episode with<a target="_blank" rel="noopener" class="mention-pnpTE1" href="https://open.substack.com/users/296894255-mo-gawdat?utm_source=mentions">Mo Gawdat </a>called<a target="_blank" rel="nofollow ugc noopener" href="https://youtu.be/8yVP1cCM4AU?si=vlQahl4TZiYnLxsh">"The Happiness Expert: Retrain Your Brain For Maximum Happiness! Mo Gawdat."</a>If you don’t already follow Steven Bartlett's show, you should. He regularly features guests who really challenge how we think about life and leadership.Mo’s whole riff on "masculine and feminine" is precisely what I mean when I say I find astrology in the wild. He’s not talking gender. He’s talking about modes of being and doing that live inside all of us. "Masculine and feminine are not man and woman," he says. "Masculine and feminine are traits." He’s right.What he said (tight and accurate)<ul><li>We’ve pushed the culture toward overdoing. "We’ve turned it into a world of doing." And that doing is often the wrong doing.</li><li>When we overemphasize any trait, it can become dysfunctional. "All those masculine traits, when you overdo them, they work against you."</li><li>The fix is not demonizing qualities. It's balancing them. "Overdoing anything, including... the feminine" causes problems too.</li><li>What real leadership looks like: "True leaders don’t do, we be." (Being supplies the inputs; doing executes them.)</li><li>Why this matters: we’ve totally ignored life-giving qualities like empathy, intuition, beauty, playfulness, and flow. You carry the energy of all twelve signs. Six are traditionally masculine (fire and air), six are traditionally feminine (earth and water). That means everyone is a blend of being and doing. The question isn’t "which one are you," it’s how your specific blend behaves.<ul><li>Masculine signs&nbsp;(outward, initiating): Aries, Gemini, Leo, Libra, Sagittarius, Aquarius</li></ul><img src="https://ezycourse.b-cdn.net/1724/cmfq0b3o901kh8s9n5vuw8ymy.webp" alt="image" containerstyle="width: 100%; height: auto; cursor: pointer; " wrapperstyle="display: flex">Feminine signs (receptive, integrating): Taurus, Cancer, Virgo, Scorpio, Capricorn, Pisces<img src="https://ezycourse.b-cdn.net/1724/cmfq0d42t0009am8z9fim31pf.webp" alt="image" containerstyle="width: 100%; height: auto; cursor: pointer; " wrapperstyle="display: flex">Quick Astro Integration:Aries sparks, Gemini communicates, Libra initiates connections, Sagittarius explores, and Aquarius upholds principles and systems.Taurus stabilizes, Cancer bonds and protects, Virgo discerns, Scorpio transforms, Capricorn builds time-tested structure, Pisces dissolves and imagines.When Mo says the world is suffering from hyper-masculinity, he means that the tendency to overdo and over-control is overvalued. "We’ve capitalized... on analytical thinking, linear thinking, strength, discipline, control." And then we act on poor inputs.<h2 id="ebffb1e7-3ff4-4bf1-b5e0-a48aff51a515" data-toc-id="ebffb1e7-3ff4-4bf1-b5e0-a48aff51a515">Where “Doing” Without “Being” Breaks (Mercury’s two faces)</h2><img src="https://ezycourse.b-cdn.net/1724/cmfq0dmdm000afp8z64p50p0m.webp" alt="image" containerstyle="width: 100%; height: auto; cursor: pointer; " wrapperstyle="display: flex">Think Mercury for a second. Mercury rules two signs, Gemini and Virgo.<ul><li>Gemini (masculine, air): collects, connects, talks it through.</li><li>Virgo (feminine, earth): separates wheat from chaff, refines, serves what’s useful.</li></ul>In real life, you need both expressions of Mercury, or you’ll drown in data and starve for wisdom. Hyper-doing looks like "ship it, ship it, ship it." Being asks, "What exactly are we shipping, and for whom?" That is the missing input Mo is asking for. It also demonstrates the practicality of integrating Masculine and Feminine energies in Mercurian activities, such as problem-solving.<h2 id="8fe73e6e-2b48-4ccc-86c3-4a8c038aab01" data-toc-id="8fe73e6e-2b48-4ccc-86c3-4a8c038aab01">Practices to Rebalance (and how I map them)</h2>Mo offered three simple drills. Here's how I translate them through a chart.<h3 id="07cfb047-366f-41be-88fa-9939f50343a8" data-toc-id="07cfb047-366f-41be-88fa-9939f50343a8">1) Observation drill</h3>Watch two groups solve the same task. One jumps into doing. One pauses to sense impact and invite alternatives. You'll hear the difference in the first five minutes. Take a moment to observe this in real life if the opportunity arises. What do you notice?Astro overlay: put Aries on the Ascendant to model pure doing at the front door. Now run the cross-checks that keep doing intelligent: Taurus 2nd (personal resources and self-worth), Cancer 4th (belonging and care), Virgo 6th (discernment and daily habit), Scorpio 8th (purge the stale), Capricorn 10th (responsibility and legacy), Pisces 12th (field awareness). If those houses are malnourished, “doing” will burn them out.<img src="https://ezycourse.b-cdn.net/1724/cmfq0eddi32p6td8zbkxsf9d9.webp" alt="image" containerstyle="width: 100%; height: auto; cursor: pointer; " wrapperstyle="display: flex">In a work context, this is that brilliant startup idea that burns hot and fast, but completely falls apart. You've seen it. They go full-throttle "ship it" mode, but they never paused to check in on the team (Cancer 4th) or ask if the product actually holds any value beyond the initial flash (Taurus 2nd). They're so busy running that they ignore the details (Virgo 6th), refuse to kill the project when it’s clearly failing (Scorpio 8th), and chase the next big thing without building a real legacy (Capricorn 10th). It's all drive and no direction—no sense of what the collective really needs (Pisces 12th). That’s not ambition. That’s a death wish for the project and the people working on it.<h3 id="eb4f7a4e-4a80-4117-84fa-4828e8a829d9" data-toc-id="eb4f7a4e-4a80-4117-84fa-4828e8a829d9">2) Appreciation Exercise (role-flip)</h3>Solve it as yourself. Then solve it as the other person. You'll find valuable wisdom in both approaches. Mo’s framing hits: "Overdoing anything... is not good." Role-flipping reveals which quality you've underdeveloped. Ask yourself if you are forcing “doing” or “being” with your solution. The problem is over-cranking. "Strength is good, you overdo it, you become aggressive." Same with the feminine: overdo intuition, and you can ignore facts. The work is balance.I use a simple leadership test you can borrow: if your Cancer 4th (home, empathy, care) is malnourished, I do not trust your Capricorn 10th (public leadership). Feed the soil, not just the spreadsheet.</li><li>In conflict, ask one question before you make one claim.</li><li>Choose one act for beauty or kindness, not efficiency.
